Thermometers

Thermometers are one of those things that few people put any thought into. They are merely a piece of home based medical equipment that you fetch out of the bathroom drawer and clean when you aren’t feeling well, and they are a sure fire way to tell whether or not a child is going to be allowed at school or you should even try to make them go.

One of the oldest tricks in the book when it comes time to fake sickness has to do with thermometers, and no matter how many sitcoms the thermometer trick has backfired on, to this day child after child all over the United States and probably the rest of the world has probably tried to use the high temperatures of light bulbs and other household equipment to their advantage.

These days thermometers have advanced so much from the basic mercury thermometer or Taylor thermometer or the medical thermometer designed for the ear or even the rectum. The thermometer invention was a great one indeed and very few people care who invented the water thermometer. These days there are all types of thermometers out there that most people are not at all acquainted with, and unless you go into nursing or become a doctor or something of that nature, chances are you will never have the chance to become fully acquainted with all of the different types of thermometers and the thermometer brand names out there on the market today.

If you put in a search for thermometers right now you will probably come up with quite a few returns, from basal thermometers to water thermometers to mercury thermometers and even goal thermometers. Although the latter does not necessarily calculate the temperature of the body, it is more of a chart to show how people are reaching toward a common goal.

If you want to learn how to build a thermometer or some other information about the thermometer, they make excellent science projects and even better projects for science fairs where you have to demonstrate a principle of science and have a project to go along with it. This is a great way to show that you are able to learn scientific principles and the idea of a thermometer is a pretty easy scientific principle to learn as well.
