Finger Cots

Finger cots are one of the necessary evils of medical science. Nobody ever wants to wear a finger cot, but unfortunately it is one of those things that cannot seem to be avoided. If you have ever broken or sprained your finger, you have probably had to wear a glove and finger cot at some point or another to fix the injury. Finger cots can help to keep your finger from moving around too much, and they are a pain in the rear end at the same item.

How long do finger cots have to be warn? Depending on the nature of the injury and the type of finger cot you are using, your doctor may prescribe that a patient wears a finger cot for up to a month or more and that can be really aggravating. Needless to say, people take off their finger cots long before they actually should and that can truly aggravate an injury to the fullest.

Needless to say, if you have a hand injury you should definitely go by what the doctor prescribes you and for the length of time that they prescribe you to wear your finger cot. Finger cots are not always the easiest program to get with medically speaking. They can really hinder every day activity and that makes it hard to type, to drive, to tie your shoe laces or do a lot of other things that require fine motor skills.

Hopefully finger cots are not something that you will ever have to become more familiar with. I you play a sport, especially football or basketball, chances are that at some point or another you will be forced to deal with a finger cot because these sports cause people to sustain a lot of injuries to their fingers. The best thing you can do is watch your hands and try to make sure that you keep your limbs out of harm’s way, but this is not always possible.

Finger cots are just one of many uncomfortable medical devices that people have to endure. Leg braces, cervical collars and other medical support devices, provided for the safety and support of the human body in case of injury. If you are assigned to do something by your doctor, it is in your best interests to follow through. Wear your finger cot and be able to use your hand again.
