Eye Wash Station
Eye wash stations are just what they sound like. They are stations that are equipped with eye wash and you normally find them in areas where there are nasty chemicals being used. High school and college chemistry classes are one place where you might find official eye wash stations, and it is to decrease or eliminate the damage that can be caused to the eye in the event of chemicals or something equally hazardous being splashed in the eye.
Eye wash stations are never a good substitute for a great pair of safety glasses, especially if you are around hazardous chemicals that may or may not splash. Be careful not to splash or have anything in the area that if it did splash it could potentially get in your eye.
Eye wash stations are required to be in plain view of any place where eye irritants are around. Be sure that if you have an eye wash station installed, the water source is clean and pure water and that everything is clean, so that there are no other objects potentially getting in the eye when the eye wash does have to be implemented. Filtered water is especially useful for eye wash stations, as that can make sure that there are no harmful chemicals in the water that people can get in their eyes.
Eye wash stations must be in plain sight of the stations where such chemicals are being used, so that if something happens the injured person can get to the eye wash station with few problems, if any.
Your eyes are one of the most important things you have going for you. There are plenty of people out there who have been blinded by chemicals that can attest to how useful an eyewash station would have been but these days they are popping up everywhere, in schools an d colleges, in work places, and even in doctors offices where chemicals are used. The next time you see an eye wash station sign, be grateful because that means wherever you are took some care in the health and safety of your eyes.
There is no substitute for good eye goggles but in the case of emergency, rinse your eyes well at an eye wash station and consult a physician as soon as humanly possible. Eye wash stations might just save your eyes someday.
