Blood Borne Pathogens

Blood borne pathogens are pathogens that are carried by blood and can be transmitted through contact with blood. Blood borne pathogens are a real problem, and diseases that can be transmitted through the transfer of blood borne pathogens so for good reason hospitals are very aware of the idea of blood borne pathogens and the potential diseases and infections that can be transmitted through those means.

If you notice at the hospital your blood is regarded as potentially toxic and infective, even if you have already tested clean for HIV and other blood borne diseases. This is because so little is actually known about blood borne pathogens, and people are not always aware of what they have or do not have unfortunately. All blood is regarded as potentially toxic, so don’t feel offended. It is usually hospital protocol to do so, to protect both the safety of the patients who go to hospitals and clinics and the people who work there. There has been more than one incident in history of nurses and physicians being infected via blood borne pathogens transferred to them from someone who they treated when they were bloody.

You probably have a blood borne pathogen fact sheet or a blood borne pathogen program or booklet in your place of employment, especially if you work in a warehouse or a medical setting. Employers want to educate people as much as possible about the dangers of blood borne pathogens as pertaining to their roles in their environment. Nobody wants to risk legal action that could potentially go down, not to mention losing a worker to a potentially horrible and debilitating disease that was spread via blood borne pathogens.

Also the thing about diseases that travel this way that is rather disturbing is that they can be spread in other methods s well, so if a disease is obtained via blood borne pathogens, chances are there is more ways than one to spread the disease.

HIV, West Nile Virus, Malaria and other blood related diseases are transferable by blood borne pathogens. West Nile and Malaria are two diseases that can be related by blood borne pathogens and that is the scary part about it, because mosquitoes carry blood and go back and forth from human to human. Doing nothing at all, blood borne pathogens are being spread. If you are around blood or in a medical setting, be sure to educate yourself on the dangers of blood borne pathogens.
